The department is under the Medical Management of Dr. Brian Goerig. Progression of Training. The department has gone from First Aid training to Emergency Care Attendant training, to EMT, EMT-I, EMT-P, and now LP. Ambulances. The EMS department has 4 in-service Type 1 ambulances and 1 backup Type 1 ambulance. Instructors. The EMS department also has 2 TDH state certified instructor/examiners. This allows us to have an in-house Continuing Education program. These two instructors also teach EMS at our local community college. In House Continuing Education. Training Coordinator Mike Giesalhart is in charge of planning and conducting the monthly CE class. CE ensures proper training of all medics and is essential in re-certification and licensing of the medics. El Campo EMS is actively involved with teaching CPR and first aid. The classes are taught to health care providers, businesses, civic organizations, and interested individuals. Organizations include the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. We also involve our local schools, youth groups, and civic organizations in Fire Prevention and National EMS Week. Awards received in the last 15 years - Partner in Education Excellence Award from Wharton County Junior College. Senior Skills Instructor Award of Excellence 1997 from Wharton County Junior College. EMS Preceptor of the Year Award of Excellence 1997 from Wharton County Junior College. Public Provider of the Year 1998 from the Greater Houston EMS Council.

Texas Department of Health EMS administrator Award in 2001. Brief History. El Campo EMS began operating September 1, 1971 with three paid personnel and several volunteers. The service began operation with one new suburban and one used ambulance. At that time the level of service was Basic. Herrman Novak was the first EMS Director. Novak was the eighth inductee into the Texas EMS Hall of Fame in 1998. ECA Emergency Care Attendant EMT-B Emergency Medical Technician Basic EMT-I Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate EMT-P Emergency Medical Technical Paramedic LP Licensed Paramedic. El Campo Fire/EMS/Law Enforcement Explorer-Crew 2887. The EMS is heavily involved in the scouting program in 1993. The Explorer/Crew is a branch of the boy Scouts of America which involves boys and girls between the ages of 14-20. The Associate Advisor is Greg Pasak. Charter representatives are Nielsen who represents the Fire Department, Jimmy George, who represents the EMS Department, and Sheriff Jess Howell and Lt. Danny Marek, who represents the Wharton County Sheriff's Department. This group focuses on career orientation for the youth. The youth are instructed on fire department organization, fire fighting techniques, equipment and operations. In the EMS service the Explorers are instructed on CPR, first aid, and the use of equipment on the ambulance. They are then allowed to assist with 911 calls and transfers. A ranking system must be attained in order for the Explorers to ride along with these services. In order for them to ride along with the Sheriff's Department, they must meet the following requirements. First, they must observe dispatch. Then they learn the policies and procedures of the jail. After this is completed, they are allowed to ride on patrol with a supervisor and observe investigations.
