Buyer - Overseas Logistics.

Job Overview and Responsibilities. Assists in the development of the global Category Strategies for FCL, LCL, Airfreight, International Freight Forwarding and other related Overseas categories. Follows the established Category Strategies for the logistics modes under his/her responsibility. Assists the internal customers in defining their logistics scope of service; Gathers and shares market intelligence for the transportation modes under his/her responsibility. Prepares local/regional bid events. Supports and contributes to global Overseas RFP events. Supports in qualifying, approving and selecting new logistics suppliers. Negotiates, develops and manages contracts with logistics suppliers. Maintains relationships with established logistics suppliers. Collects, analyzes and assures quality of the data to support purchasing activities. Proactively identifies and collaboratively works with the business units to formulate and achieve value creation opportunities. Provides information to Overseas team and/or Global Overseas Manager, as required for monthly reports, market studies, etc. Understands Solvay’s Quality, Safety and Code of Conduct Policy and complies with all corporate guidelines. Develops and maintains Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure service levels of his/her logistics suppliers. Ensures that the Solvay Purchasing Process is adhered to. Coordinates with HSE to ensure suppliers comply with international, federal and local regulations as warranted (EPA, OSHA, FMC, DOT, IMA, etc.) and actively participates in Solvay’s Corporate Social Responsibility program, including supplier assessments and audits as required. Education and Experience. Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing, Business, Finance, Economics, Business or Supply Chain required. MBA preferred. 5+ years of experience in logistics purchasing (FCL and Airfreight). Must have experience in the chemical or refinery industries. Broad based understanding and experience negotiating contracts for logistics. Experience working in an international environment. Strong business/commercial experience in conducting purchasing negotiations, maintaining good business relationships and establishing strategic alliances. Maritime knowledge and experience with international ocean carriers, trade lanes and their vessel sharing agreements. Geographic knowledge and expertise in international trade practices and maritime regulations. Proven leadership and interpersonal skills. Strong negotiation and business analysis skills. Presentation and networking skills. Ability to manage within an international and remote team.

Ability to demonstrate a consistent approach to working with others, have a high degree of honesty, integrity and ethics. Commitment to teamwork and proven ability to work effectively in a global team environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills. SAP skills preferred. Knowledge, working experience with E-Sourcing tools preferred. Knowledge of TMS (Transportation Management Systems) preferred. English - both written and verbal communication skills.
