Value Proposition and Solutions.

DHL, Global, English
Speed, reliability and reach are critical factors in the technology supply chain, in order to capture revenue opportunities and growth potential. The sector’s supply chain partners are also expected to ensure reliable execution under all circumstances. Product launch expertise, where alignment of supply chain and marketing campaigns is crucial, is a further key requirement. In addition, the capability to support service-related supply chains with repair and return options, for instance, plays an integral part in providing end-to-end supply chain solutions. By understanding and focusing on customer needs in the technology sector, DHL is in a better position to enable their growth, particularly in emerging markets. The shift in consumer buying behavior plays well to DHL’s strengths. Often, emerging markets have complex customs regulations, immature logistics infrastructure and international companies are uncertain as to how they can legally operate and harness the market opportunities that are unfolding. Because we have long operated in these markets, we have a wealth of local and regulatory knowledge within DHL. By partnering with our customers, we are able to mitigate many of the supply chain challenges often associated with these markets, allowing our customers to focus on their customers. Our message is clear: by focusing on our customers and their markets, we are able to deliver consistently superior services and customer experiences that delight. This message is starting to resonate with both our customers and the markets. As such, we continue to invest and try to stay ahead of the curve and customer demand. As a result, our technology customers profit from better connectivity, higher security, better visibility and better transit times. DHL’s Revenue & Growth Proposition. Global presence in over 220 countries and territories High reliability in service delivery Regional platforms with access to emerging markets Product launch solutions Logistic solutions support for technology product related services. The dynamics of the technology sector demand continuous cost optimization in the end-to-end supply chain set-up and flexibility in sourcing and manufacturing capacities, distribution modes and channels, as well as services. These latter include postponement, late configuration, as well as reverse logistics and recall solutions. Other key solutions to achieve leaner, faster and more flexible supply chains include inbound-to-manufacturing (I2M) management solutions, multi-modal transportation, multi-country consolidation, and distribution services. And, integrating repair & return into the distribution network is a way to achieve faster cycle times and reduce transportation costs for after sales service. In order to manage the volatility in the market, demand forecasting and capacity planning are critical to maintain a cost efficient supply chain. This can be achieved best in a joint effort where all stakeholders, from manufacturer to retailer, and including logistics providers, are involved. Direct distribution is one solution that can reduce inventory costs and allow faster time to market by eliminating the need for regional or local warehousing at destination.

In addition, further efficiencies can be gained by integrating technical services into the supply chain. This means, instead of sending defective products back to the manufacturer, a technical services partner can do screening and repair at the warehouse. This reduces the number of touch points and the turnaround time, which helps minimize cost. At the same time, many technology companies are looking to manage their supply chains, including aftermarket logistics, from a global perspective. This means consolidating and globalizing the suppliers and strategy. These companies are finding that, by partnering with DHL, they can tap into these new sources of efficiency and flexibility through our full range of technical services, including repair & return, service parts logistics, and recall solutions. In addition, with different parts of the supply chain often relying on different logistics providers, a dedicated end-to-end management and visibility function is needed to maximize effectiveness. Regulated supply chain models require highly specialized logistics knowledge and capabilities. And, companies today increasingly need to know their supply chain’s environmental impact, which requires visibility of their carbon footprint, too. Achieving visibility in the supply chain is the key to both simplifying otherwise complex logistics set-ups and to ensuring shipment security. Technology products tend to be high-value goods and manufacturers want the appropriate level of security with maximum visibility – even for smaller shipments – without sacrificing speed to market or price. These customers need full visibility across the end-to-end supply chain so that high-value goods can be tracked more easily and corrective actions can be taken immediately. Similarly, as supply chains increase in complexity, with multiple, specialized providers, a dedicated end-to-end management and visibility function – such as a lead logistics provider (LLP) solution – is called for to effectively manage it all and simplify things for the customer. At DHL, we provide our technology customers with global supply chain management, LLP and control tower solutions, employing our sophisticated, end-to-end visibility tools. These include advanced realtime GPS and 3G tracking capabilities for road, ocean and air transport, along with secure, TAPA-certified facilities. We recently rolled out the DHL High Value Freight solution for less then truckload (LTL) shipments across Europe, to complement the full truckload (FTL) service. We also offer the visibility and security of realtime tracking of ocean-going containers through our DHL Ocean Secure service. And, for air freight, too, technology solutions are being specially developed to save shipment data during flight, and then transmit this data after landing. We also call on DHL’s specialized competence centers, as well as consolidated distribution services and hubs, to ensure visibility is coupled with maximum supply chain efficiency and security. And, speaking of visibility, we can provide CO2 emissions tracking for customers looking to monitor their end-to-end environmental footprint, too.
