Warehouse Manager. The Warehouse Manager mainly supervises employees whilst minimising problems in warehouse management. In larger organisations, a Warehouse Manager will primarily be a communicator and organiser, while in smaller organisations their job is far more physical, usually involving the loading and unloading of goods in and out of the warehouse. The Warehouse Manager has to make sure that any equipment supplied to employees is safe and usable, whilst maintaining control of stock and inventory, ultimately making them pivotal within the logistics sector. A Warehouse Manager has varied tasks, from the maintenance of any machinery to overseeing stock control, and from this can advance further in the logistics industry. What does a Warehouse Management job description include? A Warehouse Manager must be able to deal with general management and strategic planning whilst also able to involve themselves in practical work on the warehouse floor. The Warehouse Manager must not only make sure that employees are regularly briefed, supervised and trained but also that any machinery or vehicles are maintained, upholding health, safety and security in the work place at all times. The Warehouse Manager must also take regular stock of the inventory, keeping systems up to date by producing regular reports, and planning for future capacity requirements. The Warehouse Manager must also maintain budgets and environmental standards, fulfilling any obligations given by a higher office. A Warehouse Manager must also regularly communicate with distributors, suppliers, employees and head office to ensure quality and delivery standards are upheld. Key skills and qualifications of a Warehouse Manager: You may be required to hold relevant qualifications associated with Warehouse Management including a Forklift Truck License. A Warehouse Manager must have experience in stock control and in some roles, customs liaison. A Warehouse Manager must have strong management skills, able to efficiently organise a large team on various shifts since the Warehouse runs for 24 hours. Good organisation skills are required as Warehouse Management centres on the organisation of people, stock and budgets whilst planning for the future. A Warehouse Manager must also be able to motivate a workforce and encourage strong teamwork. Proficiency in Microsoft Office would be beneficial and you may also be required to have a sound understanding of industry standard computer software.
