What are the duties of a Logistics Officer in the Indian Navy

Navy logistics officer. Still have a question? Ask your own! Logistics Officer deals with the Logistics aspects of Men and Material. He plays a vital role in the human aspect of the ship/establishments organisation A modern warship irrespective of its role needs a continuous supply of fresh provisions, fuel and spares. You as a Logistics Officer will be responsible for smooth supply of stores to all naval units. In no other career does an officer get such a vast exposure to keep abreast of modern and latest development in the field of management and finance Officers with Works Specialisation would get a wide exposure in Civil Works and Infrastructure related appointments during the span of their career. Logistics Officer is involved in planning, forecasting and execution of the budget and inventory management of spare parts and other items required for day to day running of ships. He is also entrusted with meeting the food and clothing requirements of the personnel of the Indian Navy which play a crucial role in maintaining their morale. He is trained by the Navy in the field of Inventory Management, Finance, Supply chain Management and Information Technology. You as a Logistics Officer would be responsible for management of Integrated Supply chain activities using cutting edge technologies and suitable managerial skills. It is a challenging job where your contribution is crucial for successful achievement of mission objectives and at the same time provides you with enough scope for personal growth and advancement. promoted by Credo. Logistics Cadre is one of the most important branches in any Navy or Armed Forces. A logistics officer in Indian Navy has the opportunity to go to sea onboard the ship he or she is assigned, but may also be stationed on land. At first, the officer is responsible for filling up the ship with all its requirements at sea. From spare nuts and bolts to missiles and guns, uniforms and bedding, and of course the most important "fresh water" for hygiene and drinking purposes. Before a Naval Warship leaves port , it has to be filled with 6 months worth of supplies! So a logistics officer tends to be the busiest in port. And this includes any port the ship might dock into! Once out at sea, what if the ship suddenly requires fuel refilling? It is again the logistics officers job to plan out and map where the tanker ship is and when his or her ship may need fuel and other equipment at sea. Making sure the right equipment is brought when you are hundreds of nautical miles out at sea, is no small or easy job. Logistics officer is also close to the personnel onboard for their personal requirements in legal matters or logistics matters including the Captain of the Ship. So as a new officer, you are already close to the Captain because you know what booze is required onboard and his personal favourite! As you get promoted you will be responsible for more and more ships, and be on executive oversight, which you already do when you join but for a single ship. At war and peace you are also responsible for Damage Control onboard your ship and any ships you are entitled to. Making sure the damage is controlled and is not threatening the operational capabilities of the ship is your job. Its a stressful but fun job like all military jobs , if you like to be at the background, making sure all the operations go smoothly! Without a Logistics Officer doing his or her job properly, a ship might not have the weapons it needs during war or operations, or worse! it might not have enough booze, to wash down the pep talks :p I will add that, anyone looking forward to join this branch or any other branch in that case, to NOT see it as a job or career option, but as a thing you love to do and as an adventure.
