Ryder Employee Reviews. Want to know more about Ryder ? In regards to Ryder HQ, there is a deep calcified culture of, for lack of a better term, "old school mentality." Superficially they recognize the need to modernize their business processes, but in actuality fail to realize they need to first modernize their company culture in order for that to happen. Ryder's biggest overarching problem is not only is the entire company buried in bureaucracy, but the mid-management layer is largely made up of relics who undermine cultural modernization and the modernization of their processes because they know it will make them obsolete and useless. Much of the company culture is about preserving one's position, even if it means impeding the company's progress in certain areas. Unfortunately, many people within the company already feel that it will eventually be purchased for its fleet by a larger company, (Amazon) and gutted of its personnel. This means they are not motivated to advance their culture or their technology, but rather buy their time until they reach retirement. From an employee experience perspective, (at the risk of sounding bitter), the human resources department is staffed by incompetent and lazy automatons, not actual thinking people. My position was matrixed, as in I sat in two departments and was compensated by only one of them. (Which as you can imagine, is the one I prioritized). When the management team of the other department was replaced, it was replaced with individuals who did not understand how matrixed roles worked and felt I reported to them. (I did not). They decided to eliminate my position altogether more. as they could not justifiably fire me since I was actually quite good at my job. (It also happened to be that I was accomplishing far more than the person in the new manager role that was created to handle what the director did not want to, which played a key role as well). Instead of doing what an educated, diligent human resources manager should do and sit all stakeholders down to discuss the issues in order to levelset and gain everyone's perspective to ensure nothing unfair was occurring, they simply obliged the managers of the department I did not report to and eliminated my position. They did not assess the situation or consider that the very person calling for my termination was the person most threatened by my success, they just carried out what they were told to do by managers. Understand, you are not safe at Ryder HQ. It's not malice, it's simply that you are at the mercy of whoever happens to be in a position higher than you as the dense bureaucracy prohibits the HR department from doing their job and ensuring that people aren't being fired because they are better than those who have the ability to get rid of them. (This is a very common issue in companies, most trained HR professionals are cognizant of it and take steps to curtail it). People are often laid off or fired at Ryder. This is due to the systemic issue of a derelict HR department that does not do its due diligence because it's just "too many people." Apply at your own risk. less.
