What It’s Like Working At Uber As An Operations & Logistics Manager? Ever wondered what it’s like to work at a ‘unicorn’ startup with an estimated valuation of $50 billion? After working for 2.5 years at HotelTonight, Gauthier’s interest in the sharing economy brought him to Uber , where he is currently using his expertise in the hospitality business to drive the ride sharing app even further into the future. RiseHigh: Tell us about a typical workday at Uber . Gauthier: 3 words: never the same. Although we have usual and recurring to do’s, we like to stay flexible in order to answer important business needs. The usual time of a Dops [driver operations] is divided into two main parts: First, partner support (the most important aspect of our job, as this is what put drivers on the road) and second: Project work and individual assignments. We each have verticals and specific areas of the business we are working on through different projects, from business development opportunities to product features. RiseHigh: Why did you decide to join Uber as an Operations and Logistics Manager ? Gauthier : I came from another similar mobile-native startup which was launched more or less at the same time as Uber. However, I also followed the Uber (r)evolution closely and ultimately decided that I had to be part of it. As for the Ops role, while I was offered to chose between Marketing and Operations, my preference went to Operations, which was more fulfilling of my aspirations and answered my desire to deal with challenges. I thought that the previous startup for which I was working for aimed high, until I started at Uber. It’s really another world here. Working at Uber makes my daily routine super interesting and transforms every interaction I have into a learning experience. RiseHigh: What would you like to be doing in 10 years and how do you see what you are currently doing at Uber, getting you there? Gauthier : When I see how tech – especially mobile technology, has improved in just a couple of years, it makes it very hard for me to project where I’ll be in 10 years. Ideally, my next step would be either to start something on my own or get involved in a new and inspiring project at it’s earliest stage. Uber’s Operations and Logistics Managers take charge of launching in new markets across the UK, as well as taking ownership of Uber’s growth in their city.
