NIT building logistics park on Amravati Road, Nagpur News - Times of India

NIT building logistics park on Amravati Road. NAGPUR : Keeping the proposed goods and service tax (GST) regime in mind, Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) is coming up with a logistics park near Gondkhairi on Amravati Road. It has completed the survey and started designing the park. The civic agency officials feel that after GST is levied, Nagpur may become a manufacturing hub due to its central location. As GST will be levied on manufacturing point it will be economical to make things at centralized locations. “The logistics park is spread over an area of 20 square kilometre. It will have godowns, offices, banks, hospitals and all other amenities needed by the transport industry. We are planning by keeping the requirements of coming 20 to 25 years in mind. Another park will be built near Kapsi on Bhandara Road,” an NIT official told TOI. Devendra Parekh, president of Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED), welcomed the decision and said that another hub should be built on Wardha Road near Borkhedi which has some private railway yards. “The present government is encouraging private participation in railways and more companies will come to Borkhedi,” he said. However, logistics expert Shivkumar Rao said that building a logistics hub on Amravati Road did not make sense as it was not near a railway terminal. “They are planning a residential zone near railway terminal and logistics park far from it. This is counterproductive. The Amravati Road to Wardha Road stretch of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will be overburdened. Meanwhile, the urban development department (UDD) has cleared NIT’s township near Mihan. It is spread over 10 square kilometre area. The official said that NIT had started signing memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with 400 odd farmers. “Once this exercise is over we will get the land demarcated by superintendent of land records (SLR) and then get it transferred in NIT’s name. Then we will appoint a consultant for development of the land,” he said. UDD has cleared NIT’s Mihan township, which was sent for clearance to UDD months after the Jamtha township, but it has not cleared the latter. The Jamtha township file was sent to Mumbai over two years ago. The official claimed that it will be given the green signal within a fortnight. IN A NUTSHELL. * Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) to build logistics park near Gondkhairi on Amravati Road. * NIT has completed the survey and started designing the park.
