Strategic partnering among logistic nodes: Rotterdam and Eastern Europe. As a result of fundamental developments, it is necessary for logistic nodes to gain access to more markets and functions than those which are controlled directly. ‘Doing more with less’ is especially relevant in the context of the former Eastern Bloc: here, logistic nodes lack resources, while they must play an essential role in economic revitalization. Through partnerships, logistic nodes can take advantage of one another's capacities and financial resources for infrastructural upgrading can be deployed optimally. With cooperation, nodes in Central and Eastern Europe can take advantage of Rotterdam's ‘mainport’ position, while Rotterdam can use their relations with markets in this area.
