US Marine Corps - Logistics Officer (LtCol), Glassdoor

"Logistics Officer (LtCol)" The comraderie is great, the training opportunities are abundant and the opportunity for career growth is readily available. Additionally, there are excellent travel opportunities and physical fitness facilities are free. Relocation every 3-4 years can be tough on the family when kids change schools. Promotion boards can be difficult to interpret as to who is the most qualified. Advice to Management. The single piece of advice that I would offer leadership in the Marine Corps is to take a look at the promotion board process and provide a better method to inform non-selects as to why they did not get selected for the next higher grade. "My opinion of the Marine Corps after 8 years." Excellent sense of accomplishment, great benefits (100% medical, dental, vision), above average pay after several years experience, fast promotion opportunities if you work for it. The Marine Corps is very diverse which is great, however, this can lead to alot of problems within work sections. Any mistakes which would be considered acceptable in civilian sector can lead to loss of rank, pay, etc. Advice to Management. Continue to get feedback from the lowest level on up. The guys on the ground doing all of the hard work are the ones that really know what are going on. Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on WhatsApp Share via Email Copy Link Link Copied! US Marine Corps Response. "Reserve Manpower Planner" Thirty days of paid vacation. Excellent retirement package. Acess to the Thrift Savings program (www.TSP.gov). Excellent promotion opportunities. A plethora of opportunities to lead and develope suboordinates. Fear of death and serious injury. Moving every three years. Promotion of peers and seniors appears to be mostly driven by time served and positions filled, which aren't often under your control. Advice to Management. Call a turd a turd. Stop feeling like you owe someone a good evaluation if they haven't earned it. There are too many positions being filled by senoirs who are severely defficient in their leadership abilities. Promotion gives you responsibility, not leadership ability. The latter should be a prerequisite for the former.
