Introduction To Humanitarian Logistics. START DATE : 14th April 2015 / 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. FEE : €150 (Students/Unwaged – €75) Course Aim. The aim of this course is to provide participants with an introduction to some of the key principles of Humanitarian Logistics. The course runs over 8 evenings at 6-8pm starting on Tuesday 14 April, ending on 2 June. Facilitator. It will be facilitated by Will Holden , Irish Emergency Logistics Team (IELT). Will is founder and director of the Irish Emergency Logistics Team (IELT). He has over 20 years experience in supply chain management and logistics, working in the private sector in Ireland and overseas in conflict and complex emergency situations. He is currently based in Iraq, where he works as Head of Logistics, Procurement & Distribution for the Danish Refugee Council. He has also served in Haiti, South Sudan and Afghanistan. He will be returning to Ireland to deliver this course. Objectives. To introduce participants to the humanitarian field and expand their understanding of a humanitarian emergency from a logistics perspective. To review the implications of decisions made before, during, and after, a major sudden onset conflict, using case studies. To identify key safety & security challenges during emergencies, using case studies. To review some of the key practicalities for consideration prior to deployment. The course is aimed at: Members of the general public who are keen to learn more about the role of logistics during Humanitarian Emergencies. Those working in government or aid organisations that are head office based and involved in some aspect of Emergencies, i.e. in fundraising, public relations, awareness raising or development education; and who have no logistics experience but would like an introduction to this field. Development aid workers who have experience in the field but have not worked in an insecure environment and are not familiar with the logistics implications relative to their specific sectors. Professional Logisticians from the Private Sector who are interested in learning more about the Humanitarian Logistics Sector.
