Logistics Engineer. Date: Sep 17, 2018 Location: San Diego, CA, US, 92113 Company: National Steel and Shipbuilding Com. Shift: ALL. Security Clearance: No Clearance. SUMMARY. Develop management plans in accordance with applicable contract requirements, commercial standards, and established procedures. Perform ILS documentation/product Quality Assurance reviews/edits for both format and technical content to ensure compliance with contract/purchase order requirements. Develop ILS documentation tracking systems in accordance with applicable contract requirements. Assist ILS personnel in the performance of their essential functions and principal responsibilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES. Research and develop management plans in accordance with provided standards and procedures with limited supervision. Research and develop ILS documentation tracking style in accordance with provided standards and procedures with limited supervision. Provide direction to the ILS personnel in the research and development of supplier data review documentation and comment letters. Develop ILS product delivery milestone schedules to meet contract delivery requirements. Review subcontractor/vendor provided documentation for technical content and format, and prepare detailed comment letters with limited supervision. Develop and submit manpower and material budget inputs to the Logistics Specialist or ILS Supervisor. Direct the assignment of tasks as necessary to support adherence to established milestone schedules. Other responsibilities and duties as assigned. Receives direction from a Logistic Specialist or ILS Supervisor. Provides direction to the Senior Technical Writers, Technical Writers, Senior Logistic Technicians, and Logistics Technicians. Internal contacts with other ILS department divisions and Engineering, Materials, and Production departments. External contacts with vendors for coordinating Quality Assurance review corrections and expediting ILS product deliverables. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering related field and six years experience in a marine engineering environment, or more than fourteen years experience in a marine engineering environment. Must have excellent English language skills, both verbal and written. Must have the ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, schematics, and related documents. Must have at least two years experience with computer publishing and configuration software programs. PHYSICAL DEMANDS. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to climb stairs, climb on and around ships, and climb vertical ladders to perform ship inspections. Ability to see things close up. Must be physically able to walk to various areas in the shipyard for meetings and data collection. Regularly required to sit, use hands to type, handle documents and drawings, and to talk and hear. Occasionally required to stand for extended periods while operating podium instruction. While transiting the shipyard and performing ship inspections, the employee is occasionally exposed to welding/burning fumes, smoke, paint fumes, and high noise levels.
